Setting intention and creating space….Here we are midway through the first month of 2017. What are your favorite ways to settle into a new year and harness the possibilities that lay ahead for you?

For me, January is about releasing, bringing forward and creating New Year’s Re’V’olutions through setting intentions. I ask myself a series of questions to support my purpose and passion in life. I use the answers to help me set my intention for a ‘V’ibrant year ahead.

Here are the questions I ask as I set my intention(s) for a new year:1. What am I releasing in 2016 that no longer serves me?2. What am I bringing forward from 2016 into 2017 that serves me?3. What am I creating new in 2017?

The process I use to help these intentions come alive is to begin and end each day with a clear desk or work space. (A deep bow of thanks and gratitude to Amber at NGNG Enterprises with Amber Vilhauer for the process inspiration!)

Here’s how it works:1. I keep a ‘daily to-do’ list and a ‘future action’ list.

2. At the beginning of each day I start with a clear desk where I get my ‘daily to-do’ list out and work from that list.

3. If something comes up during the day that is a non-emergency and not on my ‘daily to-do’ list (thought, idea, new action item, etc.) it goes on my ‘future action list’.

4. At the end of the day, I sit at my desk and review my ‘daily to-do’ list. I create the next day’s list including appropriate items from my ‘future action list’.

5. In the process of creating the next day’s ‘to-do’ list, I clear my desk ready for the next day.

For me, this daily ritual opens and closes each day with a clear mind, purpose and focus. I’m not walking into an area where I feel frantic before I even get started, nor am I leaving unfinished business at the end of the day to worry about and possibly affect my sleep that night. It’s written down waiting for the appropriate time to act on it.

It has created space in my life where I feel productive and accomplished. It minimizes the feeling of overwhelm, feeling like a failure, or feeling like things are never ending. It lessens the things I may have forgotten about or didn’t get done because I didn’t write them down.

A clear desk or workspace creates space to release, bring forward and create new intentions in my daily life. It’s about progress, not perfection. My days are full, not busy.

I’m grateful for another year of unfolding possibilities. I love the phrase “New Year,” it’s filled with hope. Wishing you a Vibrant year filled with space, choices, health, listening, wonder, adventure, opportunity, joy, love, hugs, compassion, family, friends, community and prosperity.

My hope and intention is that 2017 be YOUR most spacious and vibrant year yet.

What intention(s) are you creating and clearing space for in 2017?
